Young-Youn Kim, Ph.D

Bio

Young-Youn Kim obtained her BA in Education (1979) from the Department of Education of the Ewha Womens’ University, Republic of Korea. She continued her journey and received M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction of Music (1985) and Ph.D in Music Education from the University of Washington, USA (1998). She served as an Associate Professor as the part of Department of Early Childhood faculty at Bucheon College (1995–2004) and Professor at Department of Early Childhood, Silla University (2004-2021).

 

Her fields of interest in music education for early childhood were diverse: the traditional Korean children’s song, teaching methods of music for young children, and cultural arts education for children, and so on. Her life-time motto, however, is to make the educational environment where all children are able to dream for a beautiful world with music in their life.

She has serviced as a Board member of Korean Society of Music Education including the Vice President (2000-2002), and the Chief Editor (2010-2012) of Korean Society of Music Education. Also, she had serviced as a Board member in several professional organizations such as, Korean Society of Early Childhood Education, and Korea Montessori Early Childhood Education.

 

Furthermore, Young-Youn has represented Korea on committees of several international organizations such as APSMER-ISME and Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association (PECERA). She was elected as the President of Korea Association of early Childhood Music Education since 2019, and received the Awards several times from Ministry of Education, Kyunggi Girls’ High School, ISME Asia-Pacific Conference, and the Prime Minster of Korean Government. She finally retired from Silla University in February 2021.
